What is a normal ratio of messages left to total calls for an answering service?
Some people call the service but choose not to leave any message or hang up. I’m trying to figure out if I am losing an unusual amount of business by using a service.
In particular if you have an idea of how this relates to an orthodontic practice that would be extremely helpful.
I have no idea what the ratio is, but we use an answering machine, As do many dental practices in this day and age. We have an emergency number that is announced in the outgoing greeting for patients to call when they have an emergency. The answering service charges a small monthly fee, but does charge more when there is an emergency, (which is rare).
The answering machine has been working for us for well over 25 years. Patients will leave a message if they are so inclined, be it on an answering machine or with a live person. I think that they leave more with the machine though, because they can talk as long as they want and leave a more detailed message.
