why dont my phone and all in one printer fax work when i hook it up together wit a spilter…i have cable?
when i run a fax test the dail tone fails but it works when i hook it up directly but tone fails when i hook up wit the spliter
Check your splitter carefully for any markings somewhere around each output jack for labeling. If you find one that says L1 and the other says L2 then this is a splitter for two different phone lines from the wall and you’ll find that only the one labeled L1 will work (if you have one that has 3 outputs, then the labels may read L1, L2 and L1/L2. Then plug in your phone and fax into the L1 and L1/L2 lines and it should work). You would need to find a splitter that does not split for two lines, but one that provides two outputs for one line. This can be tricky sometimes.
The other possibility is that, for some reason, your line cannot handle two devices on it at the same time or, the wiring in one is not wired correctly and is causing a conflict of some kind or maybe the wall outlet is not properly wired. Most fax machines have a port for your phone to hook into and one to hook into the wall. You can try setting it up that way and see if that works for you, also make sure that the fax machine is connected to the wall cable using the correct port/plug on the fax labeled for the line and not the one for the phone.
