LPT to USB printer – not being detected?
I have a LPT printer, with a USB converter cable that plugs into the computer. However the computer does not detect the printer because it is a serial cable, which is not automatically recognized. It also cannot be added via the control panel because it is USB and not LPT…
Drivers can only be installed if recognized by PC.
Any ideas how to set this up?

The Parallel to USB port adapters can be kind of dicey. Typically, you can’t plug the LPT end of the adapter directly into your printer. You still need a parallel cable to go from your printer into the adapter. Once you have that set up, when you plug in the printer via USB, it may show up as a plug and play device. If the printer is old and doesn’t support PnP, you will have to set it up manually. When you go through the Add Printer Wizard, select “Local Printer attached to this computer”. When it asks for the port, see if a virtual port has been created for your USB printer. With USB devices, this often overrides the LPT1 port.
